What to Eat When We Have Coffee? – Ideas

sandwich and coffeeMany adults simply can’t imagine starting their day without a cup of hot coffee. From the scent of it brewing to the first delicious sip, coffee is an integral part of the morning. Whether it is “doctored” with cream and sugar or simply enjoyed black, people rely on this caffeinated beverage to help them wake up and face their busy day. While coffee is often considered a morning drink, many people also enjoy a cup in the afternoon or evening.

Coffee can also be paired with certain foods to give you added energy or to simply enhance its flavor. While biscotti and other types of hard biscuits are popular choices, there are other foods that go extremely well with the beverage. Here are a few lighter foods that also work well when paired with coffee.

    Grain Snacks

Chia seeds, oats, and other whole grains are a healthy and delicious snack that can be enjoyed any time throughout the day. Grain snacks are an excellent source of energy, and can also be easily added to fresh yogurt or fruit cups. This light and healthy snack also works extremely well when paired with coffee, which has the added benefit of giving you an extra boost of energy. When enjoyed in the afternoon, many people often find that they have the energy needed to finish their list of tasks for the day.

    Trifle

While some people might feel that this dessert is simply too sweet to pair well with coffee, it actually works extremely well together, especially if the caffeinated beverage is taken black. The combination of sliced fruit, syrup, and whipped cream, when paired with the slightly bitter taste of coffee, often results in a dessert that will be savored and remembered.

    Sandwiches

Popular around the world, sandwiches are a staple of many diets. Almost anything can be placed between two slices of bread, which can be served either cold or toasted. While the ingredients used to create the perfect sandwich will vary depending on a person’s mood and the time of day, almost anything can be paired with a cup of coffee. Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches are a popular choice in the morning, and these combined flavors also seem to enhance the flavor of coffee.

    French Toast

This popular breakfast food originally started as a way to make stale bread palatable, and it is now a staple on many tables in the morning. The thick slices of dried-out bread are dipped in a mixture of eggs and milk, and then fried to a light golden brown in a skillet or frying pan. When syrup is drizzled on the finished French toast, the combined scents can make you glad to be awake. Even if you prefer your coffee black, it is still absolutely delicious when it is paired with French toast. Light and crispy waffles also go great with coffee. It should be noted that pancakes, for some, might be a little too heavy in taste and texture. It’s all a matter of personal preference.

    Tim Tams

This popular brand of chocolate biscuit is a favorite with coffee lovers, and there is no right or wrong way to eat a Tim Tam. (Americans refer to this treat as a cookie.) Some people enjoy dipping the biscuit in their beverage to soften the hard biscuit and melt the chocolate slightly, while others prefer to nibble and sip. There are also a plethora of other brands of biscuits (or cookies) available, and all go great with plain or flavored coffees. The main thing to remember is that this treat is meant to be savored and enjoyed slowly, which makes it a great choice when you want to take a few minutes to relax and unwind.

    Stroopwafel

First introduced in the Netherlands, a stroopwafel is a sweet treat that almost seems like it was created specifically for coffee. It consists of two thin, crisp wafers with a layer of sweet syrup in the center, and it is commonly placed on top of a cup of hot coffee and allowed to melt. The translation of the term means “syrup waffle” in Dutch.
