Health Factors to Keep in Mind When Having Coffee

Growing up, we may have been surrounded by a whole load of misconceptions that made us develop an unexplainable dislike for coffee. By falling for those beliefs – such as the idea that coffee causes insomnia, indigestion, and headaches – we may end up programming our bodies and minds to desist from ever drinking this beverage. Thus, when the time comes for us to take our first sip of coffee, our bodies may end up reacting negatively to this new beverage. As one person says, “On the rare occasions that I drank coffee, I would feel an instant surge of energy followed by rapid crash and shaky feeling.” If this is the kind of reaction your body gives after consuming a given type of food or beverage, it’s not likely that you will want to continue consuming it.

Thankfully, there’s a way through which you can erase this negative mentality. According to scientific research, coffee is not just a drink to be enjoyed. It’s also a substance that is very beneficial to our bodies. The chemicals and micronutrients in coffee have the ability to give optimal health and longevity to the consumer. This has indeed been witnessed in countries with those who consume lots of coffee. As it stands, people who regularly consume coffee live longer and are generally healthier than their counterparts who don’t. The key to experiencing these benefits is to shun the negative beliefs and instead focus on the positives. But that’s not all. You have to make sure that the coffee you drink is of the highest quality, has been well prepared, is consumed at the right time, and paired with the right kinds of foods so as to help in the detoxification and fat burning process.

    COFFEE QUALITY:

Just like all other types of foods, the coffee you drink should be of the highest quality. Unfortunately, coffee is among the list of crops that can be exposed to all kinds of chemicals and pesticides throughout their growth. As such, drinking non-organic coffee is bound to expose you to toxins that may lead to unexplained headaches and get in the way of your health and wellness. So how do you differentiate high quality coffee from low quality coffee? The secret is to find one that contains any of these terms – fair trade organic, organic, or single origin. In case you are stopping for coffee while on the go, try to patronize the much smaller specialty cafes. Many of these specialty cafes are known for sourcing coffee beans that are of the highest quality. And as you will realize, high quality coffee tastes better and has a more concentrated aroma.

    PREPARATION METHOD:

Since there are a number of coffee preparation methods, it’s hard to determine which one is the best. Though it’s impossible to pinpoint a method that is the best, or one that is the least desirable, there certainly are ones that should be avoided. For instance, using a standard drip coffeemakers (which are made using many plastic parts) is likely to give it a ‘plastic-like’ taste and expose you to harmful chemicals. Ingesting these chemicals might damage your endocrine system, hence leading to hormonal imbalances. The same is the case with coffeemakers that have a cup delivery system, as they may lead you to consume heavy metals that are damaging to the body. The solution to all this is using a glass stove top, a French Press coffee maker, or a high quality espresso machine. And just in case you have a sensitive stomach, you should consider drinking coffee that’s less acidic. Often this is achieved by drinking cold-brewed coffee.
