Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Coffee gained its name from its birthplace, a small town named Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia. The term “Yirga” means, “settle down,” and “Cheffe” means, “wetland.” The town of Yirgacheffe is about 1700~2100m above sea level. It has been a wetland since ancient times. The processing method and the unique flavor profile of the coffee produced in this region are so remarkable that local farms and growers take it as a matter of pride if their coffee has the flavor of Yirgacheffe. A sip of Ethiopian coffee gives you tasting notes of tangerine, chocolate, berry, wine, and some bright acidity. Some Yirgacheffe beans even have a slightly nutty quality, with an aroma that seems to be infused with toasted coconut. The unique taste experience of Yirgacheffe coffee has made it become the synonym of good quality Ethiopia coffee. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is also used for iced coffee because of its soft and pleasant profile.

Unlike Yirgacheffe, Mandheling coffee doesn’t get its name from the true place of origin. The name actually comes from a mistake. During World War II, Indonesia was taken by Japan. A Japanese soldier went to an Indonesian café and tasted a cup of the most full-bodied coffee he’d ever had. The Japanese soldier asked the café owner what the coffee was called. The owner thought the Japanese soldier had asked him the name of his home town, so the owner replied, “Mandheling,” and the Indonesian coffee has borne this name ever since. After World War II, the Japanese soldier remembered the coffee when he returned home, and he asked a coffee dealer to transport 15 tons of the coffee to Japan. The coffee became very popular among Japanese coffee drinkers, and the “Mandheling” name became well known.
Sulawesi Toraja Coffee
Sulawesi Toraja is very special. It is processed using the complex and elaborate wet-hull method. When you take a sip, you will taste undertones of cinnamon and spice enhanced by a slight acidity and a complex fragrance. Flavors of dark chocolate and ripe fruit can also be present. Tanzanian Peaberry Coffee
